Fifteen by Jamie Oliver, Hoxton (London)
Needless to say, there are a lot of Jamie Oliver restaurants in London. I don’t mind though, because I am a huge Jamie fan. There are a number of Jamie’s Italians scattered around London and I have been to the same one in Angel four times now! Four times is enough though and I felt like branching out to Jamie’s Fifteen.
There is a Fifteen in Melbourne but it wasn’t high on my ‘to-eat’ list and I never went.
The Fifteen in London is just a short walk from Old Street tube station. It spans over two levels and was very busy on a Friday night. I had booked online and we were seated downstairs. Before starting our dinner, we had a quick drink in the bar and it was a really nice, cosy bar – a good escape from the ever-present London rain!
In bottom left hand corner of the picture below, you can see a teapot – this was one of the more interesting cocktails on the menu. G & Teacups for two – house earl grey flavoured gin, served hot with lemon. It was very potent and a bit too strong for me!
We also shared a whole rotisserie chicken. The chicken was succulent and moist, served with chicken liver toast, cabbage and bread sauce. It was divine – I don’t think a single part of the chicken was dry!
The bill included a 12.5% discretionary service charge. The total bill, which included four drinks, came to about £93 – a bit pricey but the food really surpassed my mediocre expectations. Service was very friendly as well. I would definitely come again.
